The Rainys took an early lead, Missy Rascal getting lead jammer status and stealing the first set of points. LRG settled into the game quickly though, pulling back to keep the score close in the first 15 minutes.
Rotating jammers Missy Rascal, Randi Razorlegs and Belle-Istic, the Rainys scored highly and defended well, but incurred major penalties, resulting in the visiting team scoring heavily in a number of power jams. LRG took the lead and widened the gap in the scoreline to 51-109 by the end of the first period.
In the second period both teams came back fighting hard; half-time evaluations of the other sides tactics helping them to deploy clever counter-attacks. Rainy City bravely drove forwards, demonstrating tremendous agility and nerve to boost the points for the home team. They battled hard to defend against the LRG onslaught, but the game finished with a final score of 126-185 to the London team. The defeat did nothing to dampen the home team's spirits - having held their own against one of the best leagues in the country.
This feat of athleticism was the first of many events planned for the Thunderdome, and marks the start of a new era for roller derby in the North-West.
